Đề bài: Many countries import large amount of food from other parts of the world. Is this a positive or negative development?

Food import has indeed become increasingly popular all over the world. While the importance of imported food is undeniable in many countries, I believe that there are certain risks if a country heavily depends on food from aboard. 

In the short term, there are many benefits that food imports bring to a country. Initially, food commodities bought from a foreign country plays a significant role in the food security of nations whose natural conditions are not suitable for agriculture and cultivation. These countries can diminish their worries about ensuring sufficient provisions for the citizens. Secondly, vulnerable groups that struggle with their basic needs could afford their food more easily since food imports have been shown to reduce domestic food prices.

However, strongly relying on food imports would not be a good idea in the long run. If imported food dominates the local one in the market, the domestic farmers would not be the only ones to suffer. Specifically, when the local produce becomes redundant and low in price, food production in importing countries would decrease accordingly. This situation may pose a threat to the autonomy in food security of the nation if there are any problems in the importing process. It is actually the case in 2019 when many countries are suddenly short of food supplies because international trade has been paralyzed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Briefly, despite some of the advantages that food imports possess, a nation should not solely count on foreign food commodities to cater to its people.
